July 20: My Favorite Holiday

My favorite holiday in Colombia is on July 20: The independent day. This is an important day for Colombian people because we celebrate the day that Colombia became independent of Spain. This day everyone puts the Colombia flag in the window, and families go to different kinds of activities that the government puts on in public places such as concerts, dances and parades.

The biggest and most important activity this day is in Bogota (capital city). Military forces make a large Military Parade.  All the forces military members participate in this parade such as Navy, Air Force, Army and Police; the President of Colombia leads the parade. They walk on the Bogota’s streets for around 4 hours wiht clothes that represent each Military department. They make up their faces and wear special things according to the department to which they belong. For example the naval forces wear white clothes and Army flags. While they walk and play different songs, people take pictures and sing the national anthem.

  1. Thanks for the video; it was really informative! It looks like your parades are bigger than the ones we have here on Canada Day.
